Adding and modifying buttons

Published: 08/05/2017 08:00

As you begin to explore your Snap Core First software, you will notice that there is a lot of pre-programmed content included.  We provided this vocabulary so that communication can begin right out of the box.  However, you will most likely find places where you would like to add customized vocabulary that is important and relevant to the communicator.  Keep the following things in mind as you begin to customize your software:

  • It is recommended that you do not modify buttons on the Core First home page.  These buttons have been strategically organized to support language and literacy growth.

  • Be mindful of where you add new buttons.  Vocabulary should be added in a way that makes sense and is consistent with how the overall system is organized.
  • Before you add vocabulary, make sure that it isn’t already there!  Use the Search feature (Hint: See the previous tip of the week for more information.) to locate desired words or phrases before you add it to the system.
  • There are plenty of places for you to start adding your own vocabulary. Here are a few to get you started:
    • My Phrases (Path: QuickFires > My Phrases)
    • Personal (Path: Core Main Page > Personal)
    • Topic – About Me (Path: Topics > About Me)

To learn how to customize Core First and add your own vocabulary, see the Customize Core First section in Pathways.  There you will find how-to videos and step-by-step instructions.
